left for medical school to focus on helping people hear better.
He acquired Starkey Laboratories, a small ear mold laboratory
in 1970. Soon thereafter, Bill started to revolutionize the industry
with his drive to provide better product and better hearing. Under
Bill's leadership, Starkey Laboratories has become the industrial
leader and the hearing aid dispenser to world dignitaries, entertainment
stars, sports figures, politicians and even former President Ronald
Reagan. Yet corporate success and recognition was not Bill's motivation.
The better hearing smiles on children's faces touched his heart
and moved him to start The Hearing Foundation. Now through the
help of The Hearing Foundation, tens of thousands of disadvantaged
children a year are given the gift of hearing. Bill personally
travels internationally to fit hearing instruments on children
in such countries as Brazil, Mexico, Panama and even Peru. In
the thousands of fittings he performs each year, he achieves his
greatest success measured in smiles, hugs and laughters of those
