In a split second,
Judy's dream of playing college basketball was shattered when
a drunk driver sped through a stop sign near her home at Pelican
Rapids, Minnesota. The car crash left her with a broken neck,
facing life in a wheelchair as a quadriplegic. Months of intense
rehabilitation and years of hard work followed and in 1984, she
found a way to walk across the stage to receive her college diploma.
Judy became one of the world's elite racers, racing in both the
1996 and the 2000 Para-Olympics and the 1998 World Games in England
breaking national records in the 400, 800, 1500, and 5000 meter
wheelchair racing events for quadriplegic women. Today, Judy is
a community disability specialist from MeritCare Health Systems
in Fargo, North Dakota where she helps to develop community support
programs for people with disabilities, consults with professionals
on issues relating to disabilities and provides support to other
individuals facing disabilities.
